Fieldnote is intentionally compact. The model is simple: fewer layers, fewer handoffs, and more attention paid to the parts people actually touch.

Begin with the page before the polish.

We start by deciding what belongs, what does not, and what deserves emphasis. Style follows structure. That usually leads to lighter interfaces and clearer decisions.

Keep the system understandable.

Every visual choice should be explainable. Components should be reusable without becoming anonymous. The result should be easy to maintain by someone who was not in the room when it was made.
